Lester Hohenadel was working as a pretzel salesman in the greater Akron area. As more of his customers were asking him about chocolate, approached one of the future heirs of the London’s chocolate company, Harry, and they ended up starting a candy company together. Shortly after his startup of Honadle’s, Lester met and married another London heir, Nellie. They ran the business together their entire life. Honadle’s quickly became one of Akron’s largest candy manufacturers with production during our peak of 3,000 pounds per day.

All 8 of Lester & Nellie’s children worked for the company as Honadle’s expanded to 3 different states and 15 stores. Paul Hohenadel worked his way up to vice president of manufacturing and stepped into leadership as Lester stepped down, keeping the tradition in the family.

After the family business slowed down for a few years, Paul’s son (Bob) took over Honadle’s Chocolate and re-started many accounts throughout Northeast Ohio. Bob is not just the third- generation leader, but he is the main chocolatier! Bob still makes every single piece of Honadle’s Chocolates by hand.

Bob’s three children are now all involved in different parts of the business and watch the tradition continue into a fourth generation. This year brought a new way to serve customers and spread the joy of chocolate, the launching of our online store!

As our retail base expanded, it was time to expand our manufacturing and distribution. Honadle’s was excited to continue our partnership with the Village of Hartville and open our first retail location at 1138 W. Maple Street. We love greeting our customers, new and old alike. Come visit us soon!
